The Viennese Tuning Collection is created to provide a completely revised and corrected edition for the modern Viennese Bass player as well as the modern Bass player who wishes to play it in solo-tuning. Both parts are provided and just a few details have been changed for the modern solo-tuning, concerning its playability. The edition preserves the original music with the minimal interference from the editor, that due to the circumstances in which the originals are, realized small corrections in articulations, dynamics and wrong notes. In an effort to make the Viennese tuning and its praxis more popular between modern Bassists, it has been adapted to modern notation (sounding one octave down as written).

The Concerto in Eb Major for Double Bass and Orchestra from Johann Baptist Vanhal is presented here in an “Urtext” edition, based in the original manuscripts.

This is a double edition in which the original tonality of the Vanhal Concerto (E-flat Major) is preserved for the Viennese tuning, which is supposed to be tuned a halftone higher than usual (Bb, G, Eb, Bb) using scordatura, since the “Contra Basso” voice is originally written in D Major.

As the common modern praxis for the interpretation of this Concerto is in D Major, a version in this tonality has also been made, so that the modern bassist can use the included solo tuning version (Double Bass in C Major) or even the Viennese Bassist can play it without scordatura (A, F#, D , A).

This set contains the piano reductions in E-flat Major and in D Major as well as the original Viennese tuning individual part and the Solo tuning Double Bass individual part.
