Inés Badalo (Spain, 1989-)

Inés Badalo is a Spanish-Portuguese guitarist and composer. She finished her guitar studies with Antonio Jorge Gonçalves and Evaristo Valentí, and composition with Luís Tinoco at the Superior Music School of Lisbon. At the same time she complements her training by attending master classes by the composers Franck Yeznikian, Christopher Bochmann and José Manuel López López. She is currently studying for a PhD in Music and Musicology, in the specialty of Composition, with Pedro Amaral at the University of Évora.

She has received commissions from several official and private institutions as well as the National Centre of Musical Diffusion (CNDM),  Radio and Television of Portugal – Antena 2, Mixtur Festival, Philharmonic Society of Badajoz, Arte no Tempo, Ensems Festival, DGArtes, Densité 93, National Institute of Performing Arts and Music INAEM, Nak Festival, Spanish National Orchestra and Choir, among others.

Inés Badalo is the recipient of scholarships from the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Gulbenkian Foundation, and she has received numerous national and international prizes, including Composition Prize of the Portuguese Authors Society / Antena 2 RTP in 2017 (Portugal), Francisco Guerrero Marín Award of the Young Composers Prize of the Author Foundation – CNDM in 2017 (Spain), FIDAPA Award of the International Composition Competition ‘Città di Udine’ in 2018 (Italy), Call for Young Composers of Plural Ensemble in 2018 (Spain), International Composition Competition ‘Manuel de Falla’ in 2016 (Spain), International Composition Prize Fernando Lopes-Graça in 2017 (Portugal). In 2019 she won the Composition Prize of the Colegio de España in Paris – INAEM Spanish Ministry of Culture (France / Spain) and she was selected in 2021 to represent Antena 2 RTP at the ‘Hidden Treasures Mixtape’ of the International Music Council.

Her music is performed by renowned ensembles, soloists and orchestras, including Gulbenkian Orchestra, Plural Ensemble, Hand Werk Ensemble, WDR Sinfonieorchester, Ensemble vocal Soli-Tutti, Ensemble Sonido Extremo, Neopercusión, Mikrokosmos Ensemble, Extremadura Symphony Orchestra, Grupo de Música Contemporânea de Lisboa, National Youth Orchestra of Spain, Kuraia Ensemble, OCAZ Grupo Enigma, in Switzerland, Spain, Austria, Croatia, Belgium, Portugal, Italy, United Kingdom, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, Germany and France. It has been broadcast on the radio (BBC, WDR, Antena 2 – RTP, Yle Radio, Sveriges Radio, Radio Clásica – RNE, Klassikaraadio, Hrvatski Radio, Ö1 Radio, RTS Radio).
